The International Underwriting Study Group (IUSG) was founded in 2004 by its current Executive Director Rafael Shabetai and four other colleagues. At the time, it was primarily focused on the underwriting-related challenges facing direct writing life insurance companies doing offshore business in Latin America such as the logistics of obtaining underwriting requirements. Over time, it evolved to include underwriters from direct writing life insurance companies based in Latin America, reinsurers and relevant vendors, agencies and consultants.
The IUSG meets annually during the first day (always a Sunday) of the annual conference of the Association of Home Office Underwriters. This is a physical meeting by invitation from the Executive Director. With a view towards its 20th anniversary in 2024, the IUSG has established a hybrid working group with William M. Tilford, Certified FALU, FLMI, CLU, FALU, Fellow (ALUCA) of Tilford Consulting, Rafael Hernández and Sandra Prado, Certified FALU, FLMI, ACS, CLU of American Fidelity Assurance Company, Dr. Ana Villanueva of MAPFRE, Thierry Niyokindi, FLMI, AALU, B. Commerce of SCOR Life Canada, John O’Leary of Australia, and our Executive Director, Rafael Shabetai. The objective of the working group is to determine the feasibility of, and hopefully implement, a virtual attendance option for invitees who are unable to physically attend the 2024 meeting.

El International Underwriting Study Group (IUSG) se fundó en 2004 por su Director Ejecutivo actual Rafael Shabetai y cuatro colegas. En aquel entonces, se centró principalmente en los desafíos relacionados con la suscripción que enfrentan las empresas de seguros de vida de suscripción directa que realizan negocios en el extranjero en América Latina, como la logística para obtener los requisitos de suscripción. Con el tiempo, se evolucionó para incluir suscriptores de empresas de seguros de vida directa con sedes en América Latina, reaseguradoras y proveedores, agencias y consultores relevantes.
El IUSG se reúne anualmente durante el primer día (siempre un domingo) de la conferencia anual de la Association of Home Office Underwriters. Es una reunión física por invitación del Director Ejecutivo. Con miras a su 20 aniversario en 2024, el IUSG ha establecido un grupo de trabajo híbrido con William M.
